NOVEMBER MEAL OPPORTUNITIES
Our November serves are back-to-back. That happens every so often because of how the calendar dates fall. You don't need to come out to both, but please consider joining us for one. Here are the dates for this month's regularly scheduled serving opps:
- Men's Facility Serve - Thursday, 11/14 (402 N St. Louis) - Build your own burritos is the name of this month's meal. It's fun and delicious. ;)
- Women's Serve - Friday, 11/15 - (3330 W Carrol Ave) We need help in the kitchen and also would like to start the music or craft time back up again too. Let me know if you're game to lead a craft or play an instrument to lead a round of singing.
As always, just let me know if you're interested in and able to join us for a meal serve and I'll save a spot for you. And if you're able to pitch in $10 to help cover the cost of groceries, perfect! If not, that's cool too. Just come out. Seriously.
SAVE THE DATE - BIG SERVES 2013!
We think Christmas is a big deal. Mostly because that's when we celebrate the birth of Jesus and we think He's a pretty big deal. So - we love to share the love, joy and peace of Christmas with our friends staying at Breakthrough by making our serving opps in December BIG serves! For the guys (Thurs 12/12), that means we serve them restaurant-style, including waitstaff and menus with choices of steak and/or shrimp and lots and lots of options for side dishes and desserts. For the ladies (Fri 12/20), that means a classy, comfortable party with options for making gifts (decorating sugar cookies and picture frames are some great projects from previous years), listening to soul-filled holiday music and enjoying flavorful holiday bites. We need ALL the help we can get to make the BIG SERVES happen. So mark your calendars and start signing up to come out and maybe even bring a dish! Tell your friends about it too!
BEHIND THE SCENES TOURDon & I liked to introduce folks to Breakthrough through the Manna (or meal-serving) opportunities. I say "introduce" because Breakthrough is a pretty robust organization and they have lots of ways to get involved in all of the different things they do - like homeless intervention, fresh market, job readiness training and even kids programs. You should really come out to one of their Behind the Scenes Tours to learn more about the many ways that Breakthrough is reaching out to folks living on the west side of Chicago.
